Grande Cache Aug 9-10
A little more traffic on this drive, after so little for the past while, when I saw four or five cars, I thought OMG a traffic jam. Naw, just more vehicles than we were used too. It was not a long drive and I didn't stop to take any pictures. We decided to try the municipal campground, we found a nice site and settled in.
The next day we went to the visitor centre and got some good info. This guy was outside.
We then drove to Pierre Grey's Lakes PP. 83 campsites, most with power. There are four separate loops on three different lakes, very nice. They also stock these lakes with Rainbow Trout but I don't have a Alta fishing license. They apparently stock most of the lakes around here. This is a historical site, very interesting history. The next day we went to Sulphur Gates, a real cool area where two rivers meet. In the photo you can see the Sulphur River, in the centre, meeting the Smoky River, light coloured. This shows the upper viewing platform, a bit of a hike but well worth it.
A long way down.
More pictures of Sulphur Gates.
We are very glad the info people told us of this place, it was very cool. I forgot to mention, it was very windy, we had to watch our step on the platforms not to get blown off, a bit of an exaggeration maybe but very windy.
Grande Cache has hiking trails every where, the start of a system is the Labyrinth Park. We went to check it out.
We drove down the road to the medium security prison and found a cool cache at a trail head near the prison entrance. You still can't see the prison, it is down the road a ways.
So ends our stay in Grande Cache, we would not hesitate to recommend this place, very nice.
We are now heading to Jasper, not likely any cell at the campsite, we will see.
