Kluane National Park July 23
Today we headed North, up as far as Burwash Landing. It is at the top end of Kluane Lake. At the south end of the lake is an Interpretive/Tourist Center. We stopped and got some good info on the area.
Other than the polar ice caps, Kluane has the largest ice field in the world. It is also home to Canada's tallest mountain, Mt Logan. Mt. Logan is the second tallest mountain in North America, behind Denali. The third highest is in Mexico Pico de Orizaba. The only way to see Mt. Logan is by plane. We phoned an air tour company to book a flight but they never got back to us. By then it was to late to try another. Knowing that, I would call more in advance and multiple operators, if there is a next time.
Even though we did not get to see the big mountain, the others are still spectacular. A couple of shots.
A few of photos of Kluane Lake
The Fireweed along this road is fantastic.
We headed back down the road to Haines Junction, this is as far as we are going in the Yukon. I fueled up the truck to start our return trip.
Although I kind of wanted to see the air museum and a couple of other things, it was early when we got to Whitehorse, so we decided to keep on moving. We ended up at Teslin YTP again, it is our favorite so far. It is nice that it has cell service so I can do these updates. Tomorrow Watson Lake for a night to refresh, then back to BC.
Not to much for wild animals so far in the Yukon, we did see another bear today and a couple of foxes. Sorry, no pictures at 100km an hour. I know, no pictures it didn't happen. Besides, in only a few km. the bugs on the windshield are so bad you could never take a picture though it. They tell us the the fall or spring is the time to see animals and migrating birds. We do get to see a cat every day but I guess he doesn't count in the tally.
