Muncho Lake July 26
Our original destination was Liard River Hot Springs PP. After driving up to the gate and seeing the six foot electrified bear fence and as we are not hot spring people, we decided to move on. Our drive from Watson Lake to here was great, again light traffic and very scenic. We passed six male Bison, all spaced out along the road, at least fifteen km between them. We expected to see the rest of the herd at some point but we never did. No Bison photos. We also passed a porcupine on the side of the road waiting to cross, which it did safely, after we passed.
Muncho Lake PP was our new destination. Just before we got there we came across these.
This is not the sharpest photo, if I forget to shut my truck off, I get this vibration that the image stabilization in my camera can't overcome. This usually happens when I have the trailer on and I am stopped in the middle of the road. Next we saw this guy.Muncho Lake PP has two campgrounds, MacDonald and Strawberry Flats, MacDonald is first on the way down, so we tried this one first. Boy, did we chose right, the site we got was awesome, so nice we stayed two nights.
As you can see the lake is right behind the trailer, we were able to put our lawn chairs on the beach. Our view from the beach, our trailer from the beach.
The first evening the sun was shining and we sat in our chairs and took in the scenery and entertainment. Just around the corner to the left of the last picture is a float plane tour company, part of the entertainment.
One thing to note, The Alcan in the Yukon and hwy 37 have washrooms at various places along the road, from Watson Lake to Ft Nelson there are none. Lots of rest stops with liter cans but no outhouses.
Another odd thing, there was a stretch of highway that we could have sworn we were going down hill but we were not. It was very visually deceiving.
Beautiful wildlife photos. What is that strange one Pat is playing with on the beach? Ha ha.
