Kitimat July 2 2021

Today we headed to Kitimat with a loop through Lakelse PP. We also checked out Kleanza PP. Big rigs are not going to fit in Kleanza. Although some sites are big enough, the road is very narrow and I don't think you would have enough room to swing the front of the truck around.

Lakelse PP is large, no problem with size, the problem is too many campers, the place was packed. It was the Fri. of a long weekend to be fair.

I have a sister Linda and her husband Doug who moved to Kitmat many years ago. We have not seen them in many years as well. As we were not sure of our timing, we did not call till we got into town. Lucky for us, they had time for a visit and took us on a tour of the aluminum plant area and the site of the new LNG  facility. We really enjoyed our time with them.

Kitimat is at the head of 90 km long Douglas Channel. This is from a little park as you arrive into town.

The town of Kitimat was built for the Aluminum Smelter. I am not going to give a history lesson here, as you can get better and more accurate information on the internet.

The building of the LNG plant is massive in size and budget. This is a small part of the dorm rooms.

The workers are flown in and bused to the site. They are not aloud to go to town, there is everything they need at the site, including a movie theater.

This is the place that the freezers will be to make the natural gas into a liquid.

The piers that will load the ships.

Some Aluminum ingots ready to be shipped.
I think I will end this here, it is taking almost 10 min. a photo to down load.
