Gwillim Lake Aug 2-4
When you leave Ft. St. John, on hwy 29, you drive through this beautiful valley. Then you see the construction and realize that once site C is complete, it will all be flooded. Seams like a shame, it is very pretty. The construction that we saw was to relocate the highway, as it will all be under water. There will be some very tall bridges on the new road. On through Chetwynd, a huge saw mill there, and many, many chain saw carvings, then down to Gwillim Lake. We get there and the sign on the hwy says campground full, rats, well lets go check it out and make sure that they didn't just forget to tale down the sign from the weekend. Sure enough, empty spots all over, picked a nice one and set up. For the last few days we have been seeing people having campfires, so when the attendant came around we asked him if the ban had been lifted and he said it had for that area. Also told him the full sign was still out, man did he take off in a hurry.
For some reason, I have had the desire to visit Tumbler Ridge, it did not disappoint, a very nice looking little town. One of the other things we wanted to see was Kinuseo Falls in Monkman PP. Unfortunately, there were some forest fires up there and the road was closed. We were very disappointed, well, lets take a look at Dinosaur Track park. After we discovered that it was at least a two hour hike, we decided it was just ancient history, so we passed.
On our way back we took a side road to check these out, not sure but I don't think I have seen these in any other part of BC. We have seen hundreds in the US and other parts of Canada.
We got back to the campsite, we discovered that the place had filled with locals that obviously couldn't read, at least the generator hours. Some of them sure had nice looking jet boats though.
A shot of Gwillim Lake from above the PP.
We sat around the fire and read, then got ready to head for Dawson Creek the next day.
