Stewart July 9
On a scale of 1 – 10, for scenery, this drive rates an 11. I think my favorite so far. There are waterfalls at every turn, rivers, streams and snow on the sides of the road left over from the avalanches. To top it all off, there is the Bear Glacier that comes down to a lake on the other side of the road. We also saw two Black Bears, I know, we see them in our yard but they are still nice to see in the wild.
Stewart is
quite a nice little town. We stopped at the visitor center, then walked the
board walk out on the estuary. There was alight drizzle, nothing to worry about.
Unfortunately, we could not go across the border to Hyder.
We did drive to it though, then turned around and went for lunch. Great little restaurant, I had a huge burger, it was awesome. Celery sticks and carrot chunks for a few days after that one.
There are a couple of old Chevrolets parked across the street, I think they belong to the store owner.
Speaking of animals (bears), we so far have seen seven black bears, three dear and one moose. It is now eight bears, three grouse and I saw a rare Black Fox, hunting by the side of the road, awesome. No time for a photo at 90km.
Unfortunately,
after that hot spell in Smithers, this has been Pat’s view. I got the chip
three years ago and the hot spell made it go. To those that say you should have
got it fixed, you know who you are, it wasn’t fixable. lol
The drive back to Meziadin was equally awesome, we took our time and enjoyed the views.
