Ft. St. James June 25

Fort Saint James, what a cool spot. Not only is the town nice but the fort is very well done as well. This was the capital city of the Western Territories, B.C., Washington and Oregon. It sits on the end of, Ninety mile long, Stewart Lk., in the fir trading days that was important because the lakes and rivers were the main means of transport.

Cottonwood park sits at the head of the lake, as you drive in you will see this.

This is some info I stold off the internet.

A ⅓ scale model of a Junkers W 34 plane awaits you in Cottonwood Park. This type of plane was designed and built in Germany around and after World War I, and was used locally in the late 1940s, when Fort St. James become an important float plane base, providing service to mining and forestry operations as well as trapping and hunting interests to the north. These aircraft were used by men such as Russ Baker, Grant McConnachie, Sheldon Luck, Pat Carey, and Merv Hesse, all of whom were instrumental in opening up the north for further development.

A  couple of shots from the beach.

Next the fort.
Check out the date.

The fort was awesome, very few people there, so we got our very own tour. Two ladies dressed in period cloths, very hot for them, gave us a history lesson. We enjoyed it a lot.

A couple of photos from inside the general store. They had everything you could want.

They also race chickens and duck here. There is also goats, turkeys and rabbits. A veggie garden as well, they are growing pumpkins for the fall festivities. The racers and track.

The baby goats were cute.

Beaumont P.P. is not the place you want to be on the weekend. It seems that the locals like to come here to party and party they did. They were still going at it at 3:30 in the morning, loud music, loud voices and foul language. So not much sleep and then it started to get hot, so I am a little late on posting.

We are now in Smithers, it is Mon. morning and getting hot. We are in a nice municipal park, they only had 15 amp power so no air conditioning. Off to do some shopping then back here to try to stay cool, good luck with that. We will be here for a few days.
